Rehousing is the part of spider keeping that new owners dread most, and it doesn’t need to be. Jumping spiders are quick and opinionated, but with the right setup a move takes a couple of minutes and nobody gets stressed.
The most important rule is to work inside a larger container, like a big clear storage tub or a bathtub with the drain plugged. If the spider jumps, it lands somewhere you can see it, instead of behind the furniture.
Set the old enclosure inside or against the new one and let the spider walk across on its own. If it needs encouragement, herd it gently with a soft paintbrush. Don’t grab a jumper or press a cup over it against a hard surface. Going slowly is faster in the end.
